Fans are in for a big surprise when Doug, Julie, and Maggie visit the ruins of Days of our Lives' Horton house this week.

Days of our Lives fans will get a special treat this week when Doug and Julie visit the remains of the burned-down Horton house and reminisce about her family's history there. That will lead to some newly recreated flashbacks of Julie's grandparents Tom and Alice Horton.

The soap digs back into its roots with this story arc but ends up at a place in time before we ever saw the Hortons of Salem on November 8, 1965. These flashbacks take us all the way back to the 1930s, when Tom and Alice were young and newly married. We get to watch their romance in the park as well as the first moments in the house that became an iconic DAYS mainstay the day the soap premiered.

Soap newcomers Zach Chyz and Sydney Kathrann Smith play the young Tom and Alice. Chyz has been seen on the series The Rookie and FBI, while Smith's credits include some short films and the TV show The Goes Wrong Show.

The two beloved characters were originally portrayed by soap legends Macdonald Carey and Frances Reid. Reid passed away in 2010, while Carey, who died in 1994, is still the voice who opens the show to this day. When you hear "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives," that's Carey's voice uttering that famous phrase.

In the story, an arsonist recently set fire to the Horton home, displacing Doug, Julie, Chad, and Chad's children. Expect to see some poignant moments with Doug, Julie, and Maggie as they go through the charred ruins and see what parts of the family home they can salvage. Did the legendary Christmas ornaments survive the blaze? Stay tuned to find out.
