Megan McTavish out as head writer

The shake-up at All My Children continues. After months of rumors, ABC has confirmed that Megan McTavish has been ousted as the show's head writer.

AMC's ratings have been up and down for the past year and fans have complained about unrealistic storylines and poorly developed characters. Now, however, AMC has seen its ratings start an upward slide. For the week of April 19th, AMC was ranked fifth with a 3.9 rating.

During McTavish's tenure, several storylines developed that drew fire from viewers. Among them were the sexual assault against Kit, Raquel's appearance as Mateo's first wife, and Palmer's art theft. The latter, though, was one of the more well-received storylines.

McTavish has been replaced by Agnes Nixon, AMC script editor Elizabeth Page and co-head writer of soon-to-be-defunct Another World, Jean Passanante. According to TV Guide, veteran soap writer Mimi Leahey will probably replace Page as script editor, and Fred Johnson, who recently left Guiding Light, is expected to rejoin the AMC writing team.
